Some within the Houston space who’re eligible for vaccination are annoyed as a result of they do not have entry to coronavirus

HOUSTON – Some Houston area residents are frustrated with the current vaccination process and availability of appointments.

Joe Hall, 75, said he tried to make an appointment with a Kroger in Tomball but was told that the cans in stock would be reserved.

“I remember the number was 80, but they said they were keeping it in reserve for health workers,” Hall said.

Hall believes that all health care workers have the right to be vaccinated if they so choose, but he doesn’t believe that doses of the vaccine should be reserved.

“I’m on the state website now and it says the 1A and 1B (humans) should be vaccinated, not reserves, and what they’re doing is against state guidelines,” Hall said.

Hall said he isn’t worried about himself, but he does worry about others who may be in his age group and at serious risk

Dr. Marla Fielder, Kroger’s pharmacy director, said they are working to get extra doses of the vaccine and will try to help those in need if they can.

“All of the vaccine we have received so far, the 6,800 doses we have received, have already been given to a lot of 1A workers, and then we have some 1B patients,” said Fielder.

Others claim they have had trouble making appointments with local hospitals and clinics.

In a statement, UTHealth said:

“UT Physicians, McGovern Medical School’s clinical practice at UTHealth, is starting distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to populations at risk by invitation only under state and federal instructions. Based on the number of doses available, we send invitations to patients via email and SMS. If patients do not have an e-mail address or cannot receive an SMS, the UT doctors call the stored patient number personally. “

UTMB Health also made a statement regarding its vaccine supply:

“It is true that UTMB did not receive a vaccine broadcast this week. As mentioned earlier, UTMB does not control the delivery and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. People who were due to receive the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine could do so by Tuesday. After that we unfortunately had to postpone previously planned initial admissions. We will contact affected patients. People who were previously scheduled to have their second dose at this point will continue to receive this shot to properly complete the vaccination process on time. “
