The newly revealed Fulcrum Well being examine reveals the connection between the chiropractic method to therapy and the associated fee outcomes of treating again ache

Evidence-based best practice treatment in chiropractic can result in cost savings and rapid pain relief.

A chiropractor’s approach to treating lower back pain (LBP) makes a measurable difference in how much consumers pay for the treatment. This is based on new research from Fulcrum Health, Inc. The study, recently published in the journal Chiropractic & Manual Therapies, found that costs for patients whose chiropractors had been verified and were designated an evidence-based, patient-centered care approach to LBP treatment were on average less than those who received it Guidelines not followed.

Fulcrum Health completed the study, named Best Item of the Quarter based on a number of quality indicators and potential clinical impact based on data from the ChiroCare network of providers. The researchers compared the cost of more than 25,600 patients, ages 18 to over 90, seeking treatment for a new diagnosis of acute or subacute LBP. They found that caring for a provider in a clinic certified as a ChiroCare Center of Excellence costs an average of 22% less compared to caring for a clinic in the general ChiroCare network.

To be classified as a ChiroCare competence center, clinics must meet patient-centered care criteria, e.g. B. Using an integrated, collaborative approach to deliver positive results. Involve patients in decision-making; and coordination with all clinicians in a patient’s care team.

“Lower back pain is a huge burden for patients and insurers, accounting for an estimated $ 134.5 billion in healthcare spending each year. The full impact is likely to be even greater, however, as 83 million work days are lost due to back pain each year, ”said Patricia Dennis, CEO of Fulcrum Health and co-author of the study. “Even so, there is little use of a conservative physico-medical approach to influencing costs and results. This study shows that evidence-based, proven chiropractic treatment can result in cost savings and rapid pain relief. ”

This study is important because improving consumer understanding of the most cost-effective chiropractic approaches to treating LBP can have an impact on overall spending on treating the condition. In general, patients who seek chiropractic care first rather than conventional health care for LBP have lower costs. This implies that a broader implementation of evidence-based, patient-centered care approaches, such as those pursued by the ChiroCare Centers of Excellence, can enable chiropractors to effectively treat a patient’s condition and appropriately move them to proper care when needed.
